Tamarind

Tamarindus indica is an evergreen tree, indigenous to tropical Africa, with a rather dense foliage and a maximum height of 60ft. It produces brown, pod-like fruits that contain a sweet, tangy pulp, which is used in cuisines around the world, and is also used in traditional medicine and as a metal polish! Although indigenous to Africa, nowadays it is India who takes the title as the largest producer of tamarind!
